The Mercury Cafe
Our founder Marilyn Megenity began this exploration of food, the arts, politics and community that surround food began on the Ides of March, 1975 in Indian Hills, Colorado. After several incarnations in Denver, she settled here in the center of town in 1990, opening on Halloween.
The last thirty one years on California Street were full of music, poetry, dancing, political events, theater, weddings, and every type of community event. The addition of solar panels and wind turbines to the roof of the building, living walls on the outside of the building and the planting of many trees around the Mercury are just a small part of the legacy Marilyn leaves. Community remains at the heart of the Mercury’s purpose. You can contact Marilyn directly at mm@earthlingmegenity.com
On June 22, 2021 the Mercury Cafe was sold to Danny Newman, Christy Kruzick, and Austin Gayer who plan to continue to carry the Mercury tradition into the future. You can read more about the transfer of the Mercury to Christy, Danny & Austin in a Westword article here!
The Mercury serves locally-sourced vegetables, fruits, grains, meat, and bar selections, augmented with fair trade imports. Ours is an organic menu with meat/fish, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free choices. We treasure our local farmers, ranchers, vintners and distillers.
